CASE:
Re-treatment on tooth #19. Patient was having difficulty with chewing and
biting, the root canal.
PRE-OP – WHAT YOU SEE?
On the Pre-Op X-ray the PDL was thickened with radiolucency.
(“The radiolucency is just one sign that the root canal is harboring
infection. Healing of a periapical radiolucency occurs when the infection
level inside the root canal is reduced below a certain threshold and the
body has deemed the contents of the root canal as no longer posing a
threat*”)
WHAT HAPPENED?
This is a great example of pre and post using GentleWave procedure. This
was an inadequate root canal since there was a missed canal. I accessed
the pulp chamber (which is the space where your dental pulp lives). Four
Canals were located, one which had not previously been treated, debrided
and irrigated using GentleWave. For this specific procedure this is where
you can see the benefit of using GentleWave irrigation versus syringe
delivered endodontic irrigation.
POST-OP RESULTS:
On the Post-Op X-ray you can see branching of the canal (the smaller
branches, referred to as accessory canals, are most frequently found near
the root end (apex), but may be encountered anywhere along the root
length.)
NOTE:
What is in (parenthesis) is for the non-endo wizards. My wife,
Wendy Barba, gave me the idea to make it easy to understand since she
feels ENDO can be a whole different language.
